Book now: The Addams Family musical
*
Following the success of Mageia, Trinity College’s musical in 2022, the college is proud to present The Addams Family for 2023.
The musical follows an abnormal family that faces the challenges of living with a rebelling teenage daughter, Wednesday Addams, as she defies her family’s values and forges indefinite change.
With an outstanding cast and executive team, Trinity College’s rendition of The Addams Family is a show not to be missed. Directed, produced, and performed entirely by Trinity students, this musical is a representation of the hard work, passion and talent of many of our students.
A musical for everyone, The Addams Family will be performed at Union House Theatre at 7pm on 10, 11 and 12 May 2023.
Below, Tallulah Thorrowgood speaks to five students about their roles in this year’s musical, as well as the highlights and challenges they’ve faced throughout the production process.

DIRECTOR
Tell us about your role
As director it’s my role to create a vision for the show and then bring that to life. I work very closely with the cast in rehearsals, staging the scenes and telling the actors how I want the performance to look. On the production side I work closely with Clare, the producer, and the rest of the exec team to ensure we are on schedule for rehearsals and meeting deadlines. I also work with the production team to get the look of the show right. From lighting to costume to set design and sound, I have to make sure everything looks right and works together to create an appropriate feel for the show.
Greatest challenge
This is my first time directing a show, which means I have had a lot to learn. Before taking this opportunity, I had no idea that there was a whole other set of duties for directing than just working with the cast. Getting my head around countless production and executive meetings as well as liaising with the theatre has been a massive job and I’m very lucky to have Clare’s support throughout this process.
Most enjoyable aspect
My favourite part of the show is the people. Every person involved in this show is wonderful. Getting to work with such a talented and committed cast makes me look forward to coming to rehearsals every day. Clare and the rest of the team are so supportive and we all work so well together. It is an absolute joy to be a part of this production with such amazing people.
Clare Wever
PRODUCER
Tell us about your role
As the Arts Representative on the TCAC this year and producer of the musical, my job essentially revolves around overseeing all aspects of the production. From the deliberation phase in late 2022 when we first chose this musical, to the selection of our executive team members and cast, to the management of rehearsals and performances, I liaise with all the teams involved in putting this show on the stage. I also have the (not so entertaining) job of working through the financial, managerial, and logistical aspects of staging the musical. However, it is arguably just as enjoyable as being an actual cast member on stage, as I get to work with so many incredible people, both internal and external, and can directly influence the quality of production we create as a student theatre group.
Greatest challenge
There is a lot of planning involved in this production, and at times it is difficult to coordinate our rehearsals with all the other fun activities happening at college, from sports trials, to events held by our clubs and societies. Although it is a lot to coordinate, it is in no way a draining task, as integrating opportunities to engage in the performing arts at college is something I am very passionate about. Additionally, I have trained as a singer, dancer, and actor, so it has been quite a challenge to be on the other side of the stage for this production at times, as I would love to be out there getting involved in the creative process myself! That being said, it gives me so much joy (as I hope it does for our audiences) to see such a talented group of my peers and friends take the stage; working as a team to put on something incredible!
Most enjoyable aspect
It has been an absolute delight for me to meet and work with so many members of the Trinity community, as well as old friends. I think theatre and storytelling of any sort through a live production is such a beautiful way to meet and deeply connect with others. This of course is all the more easy at a place like Trinity, where everyone is willing to give something new a go, and contribute to the lively, spirited culture around us. Also, from my perspective as the Arts Rep, I find it extremely rewarding to support the diversely talented cohort of students at the college. Laughing and bonding with everyone at each rehearsal creates memories in seemingly ordinary moments, which I know I will treasure for years to come as I look back on my time here.

CHOREOGRAPHER
Tell us about your role
Being the choreographer for The Addams Family involves working closely with the music director and director of the show to create movement and dance that reflects the storyline unfolding at that particular time.
Greatest challenge
The greatest challenge I have found so far is finding the time to workshop my ideas and movement before rehearsals due to our tight schedule, my university schedule and the amount of dancing numbers involved in the musical.
Most enjoyable aspect
The most enjoyable aspect of my role is the collaboration and team effort that has been enormous in creating this show. Seeing a vision come to life, which many people contributed to, and seeing cast members’ faces light up when they perform never gets old. The reason I personally am drawn to musicals is that they highlight the three keys elements of performing arts – music, dance and drama – all in one.

WEDNESDAY ADDAMS
Describe your character in three words
Solemn, sarcastic, morbid.
Greatest challenge
The greatest challenge for me so far has been the auditions – I was rather sweaty and shaky in mine but it paid off! Getting over that hurdle was probably the worst part, but now that I am here and everyone is rehearsing together and getting comfortable with their characters it has become so much easier.
Most enjoyable aspect
The most enjoyable aspect of being involved in this production so far has definitely been getting to know the rest of the cast and crew. This production has such a talented array of people involved and it has been fantastic to work with them.

GOMEZ ADDAMS
Describe your character in three words
Flamboyant, caring, comic.
Greatest challenge
The greatest challenge has been the workload – three rehearsals a week on top of regular university and college life plus other extracurriculars. However, it is manageable and most definitely worth it.
Most enjoyable aspect
Getting close to a great group of people has been the best thing about participating in the college musical. Coming in as a fresher, it was great to have an instant community of people who I could connect with.
